Most people sense a longing for something beyond themselves–something or Someone
eternal. There is a hunger in the hearts of people that cannot be satisfied apart from coming to
know Jesus who said, “I am the Bread of Life.”

Has anyone ever shown you from a Bible how you can know for sure that you are going to
Heaven?  May I? The Bible contains both bad news and good news.  The bad news is about
you. The good news is about God. Let's consider the bad news first.

Bad News # 1

The Bible says, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).  Sin means
that we have missed the mark.  Suppose you and I were each to try to throw a rock and hit the
North Pole.  You might throw farther than I, but neither of us would hit it.  When the Bible says,
"all have sinned," it means that we have all come short of God's standard of perfection.  That's
bad news.  But it gets even worse!

Bad News # 2

The Bible says, "The wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23).  Suppose you worked for me for
one day and I paid you $50.  The $50 would be the wages you earned.  The Bible says that we
have earned death by sinning.  We deserve to die and be separated from God forever.

Good News # 1

The Bible says that Christ died for you.  Romans 5:8 tells us, "God demonstrates His own love
toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."  Suppose you are in the
hospital dying of cancer.  I come to you and say, "Let's take the cancer cells from your body and
put them into my body."  I would die in your place.  The Bible says Jesus took the penalty that
we deserved for sin and died in our place.  Three days later he arose as proof that sin and
death had been conquered.  But the good news gets better!

Good News # 2

The Bible says that you can be delivered from sin's penalty through faith in Christ.  Ephesians 2:
8-9 says, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the
gift of God."  Faith means "trust."  You must trust Christ to forgive you and give you eternal life.
Just as you trust a chair to hold you up or depend on a pilot to get you from one point to another,
so you must trust Jesus Christ to get you to heaven through no effort of your own.

Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son [Jesus] that whoever should
believe in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Trust in Jesus Christ alone,
and God will give you eternal life as a gift. I invite you to tell God right now that you are trusting
Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.

This is the Good News that changed my life and gave me something significant to live for. I
hope you will find the lasting peace with God which I have found through a relationship with
Jesus Christ.
